A Louisville wine bar has popped the cork on national recognition, being named one of the best wine bars in the U.S. by Wine Enthusiast. The honor celebrates Nouvelle’s exceptional Champagne selection, curated by owner and sommelier John Grisanti.
Known for its “Completely Irresponsible Champagne List,” Nouvelle showcases an impressive array of Grower Champagnes. Plus, Grisanti is Kentucky’s only Champagne Master, a title designated by the French Wine Scholar Guild.

Grisanti’s expertise has drawn praise from wine aficionados far and wide. Lindsay Matteson, general manager and beverage director of Hell or High Water, introduced it as “a gorgeous wine bar with a relaxed vibe, small bites, and a beautiful patio.”
The recognition is the culmination of years of hard work and dedication. On Instagram, Grisanti expressed his gratitude: “We have worked really hard to build a world-class Champagne program that represents the best small Growers around, and it has been an absolutely incredible journey!” He also emphasized the importance of relationships with small family producers, importers, and distribution partners in shaping the bar’s unique offerings.
The bar’s loyal following in Louisville has been key to its success. Grisanti added, “More than anything, our regulars and colleagues in this industry really make it worth it!”
If you’re a fan of bubbly or curious to explore the world of Grower Champagne, this Louisville gem deserves a toast for raising the bar locally and nationally.
