Hereafter, a 19th-century-style speakeasy in downtown Louisville, is the perfect place to visit this Halloween season. Rumor has it the building is even haunted?!
Housed in a dimly lit basement that was previously home to Jimmy Can’t Dance, you’ll find unique decor that includes authentic vintage portraits collected from estate sales across the South. The spooky, nostalgic atmosphere is the perfect thing to get you in the Halloween spirit.
From the cabinet of curiosities to the reported ghostly sightings, there’s plenty to discover when you visit this spot for a drink or attend one of their music or burlesque shows.

The Hereafter speakeasy is located in a building from the 1860s in Downtown Louisville. This dimly-lit spot rests below street level and often hosts jazz nights and burlesque shows.Enter through this downstairs corridor that lead to Hereafter, but beware. It’s also the site of several ghostly encounters… including one with a ghoulish figure that resembles a Union Soldier.Enter from upstairs? You can reach the basement speakeasy by going down the staircase that leads from The Misfit to Hereafter. Just make sure you keep an eye out for the two small apparitions that have been spotted peering down from the top of the stairs.The owners had a customer swear they saw an old lady in the reflection of this 125-year-old mirror from Walnut Way Farm, Kentucky.In the Cabinet of Curiosities you’ll find old photos from various local estate sales. Notice the photo at the bottom… That’s Jim Goodwin, Louisville legend & former owner of Another Place Sandwich Shop, the predecessor of Misfit.The cabinet is filled with mementos from the building’s history along with artifacts from the owner’s friends & family.The entire space is filled with spooky decor like this antique pheasant from the 1950s along with a hand-carved skull from that originated in South Africa in the 1960s.All the spooky vibes from this antique lack-a-lope that came with the owners from California.Lining the walls, you’ll find all kinds of vintage portraits…… like these two unknown twins. Could they be the very figures haunting the staircase?After you’ve finished exploring the space, grab a cocktail and soak in the ambiance!Hereafter is filled with memorabilia that really sets the Halloween mood.
