The past two pandemic years have been hard on Louisville’s restaurants, but somehow, our city keeps adding more… and more… and more… and more…

Hey, we’re not complaining. Our bellies are full. Our taste buds satisfied.

2022 is looking no different. In fact, some restaurants have already opened this month. For being a week into the new year, that’s pretty good.

Some of the restaurants that are opening soon are chains, some are new locations of Louisville favorites and others are bringing something completely different to our food scene. Find them all here.

Backside at Whiskey Row Opening January 108 W. Washington St. Sidebar at Whiskey Row has long been a downtown Louisville favorite. Now, the bar that’s perfect for drinks before a show or YUM Center game, is opening a sibling bar that’s literally just around the corner from its original location. Big Bad Breakfast Opening early 2022 984 Barret Ave. Man, we really are getting quite a few new breakfast places in Louisville. Big Bad Breakfast, founded by a James Beard-nominated chef, will occupy the space of what used to be Lynn’s Paradise Cafe years ago. Guaca Mole Cocina Mexicana Opening soon 900 E. Market St. This isn’t actually a new restaurant per se –– it’s just a restaurant that’s moving into a new space. The Mexican restaurant Guaca Mole is currently in the process of relocating from its Ormsby Station Road location to 900 E. Market St. in NuLu.  Photo via facebook.com/GuacamoleLouisville
The StrEATery Opening by March 1 304 Woodlawn Ave. We broke the story about this new international food hall in Beechmont last month, and we’re excited for what’s to come when it opens this spring. We already know there’ll be a brunch restaurant, another outpost of owner Dung Tran’s concept Fresh Out The Box and a second location of Billy’s Chili, but keep an eye out for updates on the other vendors who’ll be filling the space. Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers Opening TBA 12929 Shelbyville Road Although there’s no specific date listed yet for when Freddy’s will open in Middletown, they’ve got an address listed on their website –– 12929 Shelbyville Road –– and a promise that it is coming “soon.” They’ve also got a Shepherdsville location if you want to try out the restaurant before it arrives in the East End. Goodfellas Pizzeria Opened in January 642 Baxter Ave. This Lexington-based pizza chain has been trying to break into the Louisville market for over a decade. After some issues with finding a location, it finally opened this January in the new Baxter apartment complex. This New York-style joint fit for a Soprano also serves craft cocktails. Blossom Bar Highlands Opened in January 3046 Bardstown Road Fans of healthy smoothies and juices will bloom at Blossom Bar. The grand opening of the healthy bar’s second location was delayed because of the pandemic, but it’s now slated for Monday, January 10, inside the Rainbow Blossom at Highlands Market. Limon Y Sal Highlands Opening TBA 2222 Dundee Road Fans of Mexican food will appreciate that Limon Y Sal is moving into a second location. The restaurant says it brings “spicy chilis, bright lime, smooth guacamole,” as well as “cold beers, delicious margaritas and craft cocktails” to Louisville. Melt 502 Opened in January 6318 Bardstown Road Grilled cheeses and egg rolls are the star dishes at this Black-owned, hip-hop-themed restaurant, which also serves a meat spaghetti sandwich called the “Bossalinie.” Their expanded menu at their new location will also include salads and chicken tenders. North of Bourbon Opened for New Year’s 935 Goss Ave. This restaurant draws inspiration from the many culinary influences that have contributed to cuisine throughout the South. Expect plenty of bourbon and plenty of Southern hospitality. Photo via facebook.com/NorthOfBourbon
The Peach Cobbler Factory Grand opening on Jan. 29 801 W. Broadway, 1701 Bardstown Road There are two new Louisville locations coming up for this dessert business, which serves 12 flavors of cobbler. LaRosa’s Pizzeria Opening this fall 10641 Fischer Park Drive LaRosa’s Pizzeria is a Cincinnati favorite. And one is finally opening in Louisville!
