New Albany’s Outcast Fish and Oyster Bar has closed, but a new idea is already being developed.

The restaurant will be renovated and reintroduced in early spring 2026 with a broader menu intended to appeal to a wider audience beyond seafood-focused diners, according to BRAND Hospitality Group, which also announced the immediate shutdown.

The company stated economics and an opportunity to broaden the menu factors into the decision. In order to keep workers occupied throughout the hectic holiday season, all current employees have been offered positions at BRAND’s other venues, Brooklyn and The Butcher and The Exchange Pub + Kitchen.

“We are profoundly grateful to our loyal guests and the New Albany community for embracing Outcast and supporting all of our restaurants,” said owner Ian Hall. “This is not goodbye — it’s an evolution. We’re excited to welcome everyone back in spring 2026 with an exciting new concept that reflects our commitment to innovation and hospitality.”

The announcement was also shared directly with customers through a Facebook video message, part of the company’s emphasis on transparency and community connection.

BRAND Hospitality Group is the parent company of The Exchange Pub + Kitchen, Brooklyn and The Butcher, and BHG Catering and Events.
