Art news Local artist Chris Chappel has painted a waterfall on the Whole Alternatives building at 1531 W. Main St. in Portland. It’s part of a partnership with Portland Investment Initiative, Beautify Earth and the band My Morning Jacket’s The Waterfall Project.

Call for art: The Arts Association of Oldham County is accepting entries for their juried photography show. Artists can submit up to three entries. Deadline: June 12 (aaooc.org).

Call for art: SOSAJI! Socks is holding a “Design a Sock Contest.” Two winners will be selected to have their design produced, receive a $500 prize and a gift of SOSAJI! socks. Deadline: June 14 (sosaji.com).

Call for art: The Arts Council of Southern Indiana is holding its annual “Beyond Borders” exhibit July 11-Sept. 5. The exhibit’s theme refers to the Monarch butterfly, its migration and its life cycle. Artists are encouraged to create work that relates to this theme or other themes of nature symbolically or literally. Deadline: June 21 (artscouncilsi.org).

Top art events Locust Grove is presenting a lecture on early Kentucky furniture (1790-1820) on Wednesday, June 3 from 1-3 p.m. Reservations not required. $5 admission, $3 members (locustgrove.org).

A panel discussion featuring fiber artists Colleen Toutant Merrill, Denise Furnish and Ramona Dallum Lindsey is Thursday, June 4 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Carnegie Center for Art and History, 201 E. Spring St. in New Albany (carnegiecenter.org). Merrill’s show “Caliker” at the Green Building Gallery has been extended to June 5 (thegreenbuilding.net/gallery).

The Commission on Public Art (louisvilleky.gov/government/public-art/commission-public-art?) is presenting a free lecture by John Hatfield, executive director of Socrates Sculpture Park in Queens, New York, on Saturday, June 6 at 11 a.m. at the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, 715 W. Main St. (kmacmuseum.org).

The Carnegie Center for Art and History is hosting the “2015 New Albany Public Art Project: Today & Tomorrow Series” with a Public Art Walk featuring the project artists on Saturday, June 6 from 6-9 p.m. The rain date Sunday, June 7 (carnegiecenter.org).

The Arts Association of Oldham County is presenting the 16th Annual Arts on the Green on June 6 & 7 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the La Grange Courthouse Square (aaooc.org/arts-on-the-green).

Butchertown Art Fair on Saturday, June 6 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sunday, June 7 from 11 a.m .- 5 p.m. at the 800-900 blocks of East Washington St. (butchertown.blogspot.com).
