Atherton High School junior Raquel Masterson has won the 2016 Congressional Art Competition’s National prize. Her work will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol’s “Artistic Discovery” corridor for one year. Since 1982, Members of the U.S. House of Representatives have hosted the annual Congressional Art Competition, a contest that enables high school students from across the nation to demonstrate their artistic talents before a global audience (yarmuth.house.gov).

Art events The Carnegie Center’s next Lunch & Learn program is “Held in Trust: A Legacy of Protected Land” presented by Dr. Mark Wourms, executive director of Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest. Tuesday, March 15 from 12-1 p.m. This program is free but registration is requested (812-944-7336). The presentation is part of the current exhibit at the Carnegie Center “Bernheim: A Natural Muse” (carnegiecenter.org).

“A Geography of Holiness: The Photography of Thomas Merton” talk by Paul Pearson, director of Thomas Merton Center. Wednesday, March 16 at Frazier History Museum, 829 W. Main St. 6:30 p.m. $5, free to members (fraziermuseum.org).

Paintings by Josh Jenkins will be exhibited at a two-night art event called “From Then Till Now” on Thursday, March 17 and Friday, March 18. Andrew Gentile Antiques, 1287 Bardstown Road, from 5-9 p.m. both nights (joshjenkins.com).
