March 20th marks the first day of spring. The flowers are already in bloom, and after a frigid and harsh winter, signs seem to be pointing towards warmer days. If you’re like me, you’re probably itching to get outside and enjoy the weather. Lucky for you and me, things get lively in Louisville during the springtime, and festivities are popping up left and right! If you need some inspiration for ways to enjoy the spring in Louisville, check out our list below:

Waterfront Wednesdays View Calendar Here WFPK’s Waterfront Wednesday series kicks off this spring in April and rolls into the summer. Cool off by the river and enjoy the excellent live acts the lineup has to offer. ourwaterfront.org
Thunder Over Louisville April 12th This half hour light show combines the use of fireworks displays, aircraft, and drones to create a dizzying scene over the Ohio River. Shakespeare in the Park May 28th – August 10th This year marks the 65th anniversary season of the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival in Old Louisville’s Central Park! This year’s programming primarily features Much Ado About Nothing, Hamlet, and Cymbeline. kyshakespeare.com
NuLu Bock Fest March 22nd Make your way down to the streets of NuLu to celebrate the eighth annual NuLu Bock Fest, featuring goat races, local bock beers, a wurst competition, and more! nulu.org
Norton Commons Art Fair May 17th and 18th Support local artists by attending this art fair in the Norton Commons neighborhood. Hosting over 100 vendor booths, the event stretches over two days and features live music, food trucks, local beer, and more! Norton Commons | Instagram

Abbey Road on the River May 22nd – 26th Located across the river at Big Four Station Park in Jeffersonville, Indiana, Abbey Road on the River is the world’s largest Beatles-themed music festival. Kentucky Derby and Oaks May 2nd and 3rd Louisville boasts the two most-attended horse races in the United States. Perhaps the largest attractions Louisville has to offer, these two races at the Churchill Downs racetrack are essential to the Louisville spring experience. kentuckyderby.com
Kentucky Derby Festival miniMarathon/Marathon April 26th As part of the Derby festivities, Louisville hosts the largest annual day of road racing in the state.
