Marking the passing of Earth Day 2022 the Louisville Free Public Library and partners are hosting their second annual Ripple Effects Photo Contest. The contest is open to all Kentuckiana students from kindergarten through high school. The focus this year is on students thinking about what clean and healthy waterways in Kentuckiana mean to them.
To help support students in this contest, Waterfront Park will host a free workshop next Monday from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. The workshop will be guided by local and nationally recognized photographers Aukram Burton, John Nation, and Pam Spaulding. The workshop will assist students in the basics of taking better photos and will be followed by a walk across the Big Four Bridge. The class will meet at the Louisville Community Boathouse (1321 River Road). Registration is available at LFPL.org/RippleEffects.
The contest is open to all K-12 students in Kentucky and Indiana counties along the Ohio River. Submissions are due on June 10 ( one photo per student), and cash prizes will be awarded in four age group categories (grades K-2, 3-5, and middle through high school). The Ripple Effects Photo Contest is presented by the Louisville Free Public Library, Kentucky Division of Water, Kentucky Center for African American Heritage, University of Louisville College of Education, Louisville Water Company, Waterfront Park, River City Paddle Sports, the Louisville Photographic Society, and the Louisville Photo Biennial, and is made possible through a grant from the Louisville Sustainability Council and donors to the Library Foundation.
