While our lovely home has plenty of unique charm, history, and culture scene, not everything in Louisville lives up to the hype. Whether you’ve lived here your whole life or you’re new to town, it’s always interesting to hear what people have to say about the most overrated spots.

We turned to Reddit, the internet’s hub of candid opinions and unfiltered reviews, to find out what locals alike think might be more flash than substance in Derby City.

From iconic attractions to popular eateries, here’s a rundown of the most overrated things in Louisville. It’s worth noting that these are not the opinions of LEO, they’re the opinions of the people… or at least the people on Reddit.

Derby Topping the list is Derby. “Love Derby, Hate going to it. I’ve always had fun at people’s houses, but going to the track is too much,” said u/Smokehouse502. Churchill Downs
Mint Juleps “A waste of bourbon and mint, and simple syrup.” – u/meofthreeonly
Asking About High School We all know when Louisvillians ask where you went to school, they mean high school. Is it time for that question to go? LEO Weekly Archive
Thunder Over Louisville Okay, we hear you, but what about the funnel cakes and how they brought back the waterfall this year?
Bardstown Road The Bardstown Road of the early 00s was nostalgically described as “paradise for someone from a shitty small town in Indiana,” but times have changed. “It’s become the East End but with a worse crime rate,” wrote u/the_news_we_made. “I would be slightly more ok with the crime, though, if there was still some personality there.” LEO Weekly Archive
The Megacaverns You mean you don’t love “those silly cave lights” as u/unusual-restaurant14 puts it?
Hot Browns This is a controversial one. Seems like your either love ‘em or you hate ‘em.
The Science Center Unless you’re under 8 years old. -u/BruceTramp85
4th Street Live We suppose it’s not for everyone.
Bourbon The bourbon stays. The 15 people who upvoted this comment can go. Gertie's
JCPS Busing After last year, there’s really no arguing with this one. Jefferson County Public Schools
8Up Mediocre on its best day. Beautiful spot, though. -u/Steak-Humble
r/louisville Louisville’s subreddit also made the list. Given that its users are sure to complain about this very article, we figure it’s earned an addition.
