On Tuesday, the Speed Art Museum broke ground on Speed Outdoors, a 3-acre art park outside the main museum building.
The parks main attractions will be a collection of 13 sculptures, including works by Sol LeWitt, Zaha Hadid, Kulapat Yantrasast, and Deborah Butterfield, but it will also include pollinator-friendly plants and a shade canopy created by 150 native trees, according to a press release.
The space, which is set to be finished in 2025, will be free and open to the public year-round.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Speed director Raphaela Platow said, Our vision is simple: to provide our city with an outdoor space that visitors can enjoy whenever they choose; to open the gates and never close them, because, like art and beauty and joy, this space is for everyone to experience in their own way and in their own time.
