Louisville is a town of contradictions and in those contradictions lies the charm of the city. Germantown is one of Louisville’s historic neighborhoods. First settled by farmers and butchers from Germany, this part of town grew up around working class families. The shotgun house is a hallmark of the Germantown neighborhood, alongside renovated industrial spaces, and refurbished older storefronts.

As the times have changed in this neighborhood, so have the home prices. Where once young folks could find cheap apartments and houses, many are now being priced out by overpriced modern housing and expensive rents.

The neighborhood, however, retains some of its charm.

With dive bars, burger joints, coffee shops and cool eateries, Germantown is Louisville’s truest hip neighborhood. It’s the place where the locals play, and if you’re lucky enough to already own a home in this area, then you’re in a pretty good position. You get the benefits of ownership, and a cool neighborhood that’s blossomed around you.

Here’s a taste (only a taste) of what Germantown has to offer.
