Diwali is the Hindu Festival of Lights. Also called Deepavali, it symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.
Generally a five-day event, it is celebrated each autumn after the harvest. In the days leading up to the holiday, those who celebrate clean and decorate their homes with oil lamps and candles. Often some types of fireworks are lit during the celebration.
Locally, there will be celebrations connected to the Hindu temples in Louisville. For more information about celebrations, search the temple websites. Be sure to read the etiquette rules for visiting each temple.
Here are a few temples with Diwali events planned.
