This Friday, July 11, LoganStreetGallery, located at 1131 Logan Street, proudly opens its doors to the public for the very first time from 6:30-9pm, with an evening of vibrant discovery and boundary-pushing contemporary art.

“I’ve always believed that great art has the power to surprise us, to shake us out of the ordinary and remind us of what’s possible,” said Brook T. Smith, owner of LoganStreetGallery and longtime supporter of the arts, in a press release. “In our first exhibition of the year, we’re celebrating artists who take risks, who find joy in experimentation and who invite all of us to reflect and see the world with fresh eyes.”

Leading this inaugural exhibition is “WE ARE HAVING THE TIME OF OUR LIVES,” presenting an exuberant group of text based artworks from the Brook T. Smith Collection. Employing poetic texts and aphorisms, these artworks engage irony, humor, pathos and bathos, giving material form to ideas about contemporary life and the world we live in. This exhibition reminds us that art can be both playful and profound.

Alongside this spirited presentation, “Static Vibrations” brings together the kinetic brilliance of Op-Art pioneer Carlos Cruz-Diez (1923-2019) and the luminous vibrancy of Letitia Quesenberry. Beneath the dazzling and deceptively simple surface of their works, color becomes an event in itself—shifting, pulsing, and inviting viewers into an expanded experience of perception.

Completing the evening, “Accrochage” gives viewers a peek into the breadth of the Brook T. Smith Collection, with a selection of artworks in different mediums by Mel Kendrick, Jose Manuél Nápoles Puerto, Markus Redl, and Vian Sora.

As LoganStreetGallery launches this first public exhibition, the gallery invites collectors, the community, and art enthusiasts to join in marking the beginning of a new space for contemporary art in Louisville.
