He said, “Are you having trouble learning the song? Well, then go back to book one. It’s all in book one.”
He said, “It’s the small things.”
I said, “Your hand’s cold.” And she said, “Your hand’s warm.”
He said, “Live in the present because it will one day be the past.”
She said, “What is your favorite dinosaur?” And I said, “Carcharodontosaurus, because it’s the biggest carnivore.”
She said, “One more bracket and we’re done. Your gag reflex has gotten so much better.” But I said nothing; I had too much shit in my mouth.
He said, “Can you dunk yet?” And I said, “No.”
We said, “Bless us all, we may not meet again,” and we cried our hearts out.
He said, “Don’t be scared.”
She said, “Why are you up? It’s 2:30 am.” And I said, “I’m afraid to die.”
I said, “Shelly! Here kitty-kitty!” but she didn’t come back.
He said, “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”
He said, “Keep writing those songs.”
She said, “You want to be a writer? How are you going to make any money?” And I was silent.
I said, “I love the sound of the ocean.”
