On Saturday, April 4, the yearly Kentucky Derby Festival Block Party will return, offering west Louisville a full day of food, entertainment, and community-focused events.
The free event, which is part of the larger Kentucky Derby Festival schedule for the fifth year, takes place at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center from noon to six o’clock.
The Block Party, which highlights local culture, small businesses and community resources—particularly in West Louisville—has developed into a significant Derby season tradition, according to its organizers. More than 15 food trucks, live music on several stages and a marketplace with more than 50 vendors—many of which are Black-owned companies featured in the MELANnaire Marketplace—will be there.
New additions this year include a “Block Party Passport” activity, which encourages guests to explore different areas of the event—such as the marketplace, community village and wellness zones—for a chance to win prizes. Giveaways include passes to attractions like the Louisville Zoo, the Kentucky Derby Museum and the Muhammad Ali Center.
Live entertainment will run throughout the day, featuring performances ranging from Disney and Broadway tributes to celebrations of R&B, Motown, pop and rock music.
Community partners will also be on-site offering resources, including wellness information, financial literacy guidance and free hearing screenings.
Admission and parking are free, though outside food and drinks are not permitted.
