The Speed Art Museum (www.speedmuseum.org) has new hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Friday: 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; Sunday: 12-5 p.m. (closed Wednesdays).

The New Albany Bicentennial Public Art Project (www.nabpublicart.org) is presenting free visiting artist lectures. The first speaker is sculptor Brad White on Thursday, March 18, from 12-1 p.m. at the Purdue College of Technology, Purdue Research Park on Charlestown Road. White will discuss his design for the underground railroad-inspired sculpture that will be installed downtown in May 2010.

Just Creations (2722 Frankfort Ave., 897-7319) is holding their Annual Oriental Rug Event March 24-27. This fair-trade rug sale lists the artist and village in Pakistan where the rug originated. There’s also a free “Introduction to Oriental Rugs” seminar on Thursday, March 25, at 6:30 p.m. Reservations suggested.

Kaviar Forge & Gallery (www.kaviargallery.com) is hosting a benefit to help Haiti. “Light a Candle for Haiti” will give 50 percent of proceeds from gallery sales of candlesticks and candles directly to Doctors Without Borders. Continues through April 3.

Call for art: “APH InSights 2010: Visions From the Mind” is the 19th annual juried art competition and exhibition for artists who are visually impaired or blind. The American Printing House for the Blind (www.aph.org) sponsors the exhibition, which is open to everyone from professional artists to hobbyists of all ages. Deadline is April 1 for students, April 15 for adults.

Call for art: The St. James Court Art Show (www.stjamescourtartshow.com) is seeking poster designs for the 2010 show. There’s a $1,000 cash prize. Deadline is June 18.
