FRIDAY
Louisville Waits: A Tribute to Tom Waits
Highlands Tap Room Free; 6 p.m. Many musicians treat their vocal cords with rest and herbal tea. Tom Waits just drank whiskey, smoked cigarettes and lived a blues-filled life. The man has a unique style, but not because he tries to: He just is who he is. And its that authenticity that has inspired so many Louisville musicians to hold this tribute concert with over 25 local acts. There will also be Waits-inspired artwork, film, poetry and plenty of brews.
SATURDAY
Va Va AdVenture: Explore Your Wild Side
Headliners $20-$35; 8 p.m. A tantalizing mix of classic striptease, circus, uproarious comedy, variety acts and stunning group dance sequences, with men and women performers. Thats the Va Va Vixens. Do I really need to say anything else to convince you to see this wondrous Vaudeville-style burlesque show? I didnt think so.
Dead Fest (July 3031)
Tim Faulkner Gallery $10-$15; 1 p.m. Dead Fest was created to show everyone that the rock, punk and metal scene in this city is alive and well. (See what they did there?) 48 Hour Film Project Weekend Screenings
Village 8 $10; 5 p.m. The 48 Hour Film Project is exactly what it sounds like: a global competition where participants have 48 hours to create a short film that includes randomly drawn elements, such as a genre and a specific line or prop. This years project just wrapped up, which means now we lazy people get to enjoy the fruits of these local filmmakers. Join Village 8 as it screens all of the local entries (both good and bad) of this year’s contest.
