17th Annual Animation Show of Shows
Speed Art Museum $9; 7 p.m.; April 22 – 24 Have you ever watched those animated shorts at the beginning of a Pixar movie and thought: “I wish they would just show these for the next two hours.” Well, that’s exactly what the 17th-Annual Animation Show of Shows is, with a hint of more adult-size stories. These shorts are from various directors from around the world. But all of them have one thing in common — provocative stories and awe-inspiring animation.

SATURDAY

Thunder over Louisville
Waterfront Park Free; All day I could sum this pick up in two words: It’s Thunder. You’re either into fighter jets tearing across the sky and a fireworks show so powerful you can feel the explosions in your chest. Or you like your eardrums and don’t feel like fighting the traffic for hours to leave. Either way, it’s a staple of Louisville, and if you’ve never been, it’s definitely worth experiencing at least once in your life.

SUNDAY

Louisville Leopard Percussionists Big Gig 2016
Brown Theatre $15; 2 p.m. It’s one thing to see a ensemble of adult musicians put on an amazing show, but it’s another thing altogether to watch an ensemble of 55 kids from all over Louisville, ages 7-12, put on an amazing show. The Leopard’s playlist will include a number of genres like jazz, classical, ragtime, rock, pop and their own original compositions done entirely with percussion instruments.
CycLOUvia
Frankfort Avenue Free; 2 p.m. Before the dawn of the automobile, the people of Louisville used to walk and cycle down the streets of our fair city. Well, CycLOUvia is hoping to take us back to those golden days by giving everyone the chance to walk, cycle, skate or dance down Frankfort Avenue and get a new perspective on the popular area. From 2 to 6 p.m, Frankfort Avenue will be closed down from Stilz Avenue to Pope Street so that everyone can roam around and visit their favorite businesses who will be throwing their own CycLOUvia parties.
