Howell Dawdy / Lydia Burrell split release  Zanzabar $10; 9 p.m. Alex Smith brings together his two projects, celebrating a split featuring a track from both. The worlds of Lydia Burrell — his indie-rock band that deals in layers that mix oddball ambience and standard pop melodies, creating something that is both easily digestible and challenging — and Howell Dawdy — his solo hip-hop act that is heavily sarcastic and thoughtfully poignant — will collide tonight at Zanzabar. One thing both projects have in common: They’re clever, interesting and unique.—Scott Recker

Hunter’s Legacy Kick Off Party  WorK Architecture + Design $10 suggested donation; 6-9 p.m. We need something permanent. That’s why the people behind Gonzofest are throwing a fundraising party to build a life-size statue of Hunter. So come out and have a drink in his honor.—Ethan Smith

Evil Dead ‘The Musical’  The Alley Theater (Through Oct. 31) $20-$30; 8 p.m. You either love the Evil Dead franchise, with all of its hilarious, insanely gory antics, or you hate it. If you hate it, go get your head checked. If you love it, grab your complimentary raincoat and soak up some buckets of the blood spattered goodness at the Alley Theater. With Halloween right around the corner, it’s the perfect time to enjoy this over-the-top satirical take on Sam Raimi’s classic films.—Ethan Smith

Saturday

There will also be performances by Squallis Puppeteers.—Ethan Smith

Sunday

Pumpkin Carving Contest  Garage Bar $4 per pumpkin; 11 a.m. Think you got what it takes to be the best at pumpkin carving? Well, head to the Garage Bar, where you can handle sharp objects in an effort to prove to your friends that you are the champion of vegetable mutilation. There will be two contests — one for those under 13, one for those above — and winners get a $50 gift card to Caufield’s Novelty. If you’re a part of Big Brothers / Big Sisters, you get to carve as many pumpkins as you want for free. —Ethan Smith
