DaiKaiju attack! Cure Lounge

If you’re looking for an interesting and entertaining show on a Monday evening, definitely swing by the Cure Lounge to check out DaiKaiju. The group wears masks during its performance and incorporates many musical styles into its sound. Joining DaiKaiju and their “attack” is Twenty First Century Fox, Hot Prowlers, and Tsunami Samurai.

Tuesday

Damn the Witch Siren, Opposite Box and more! The New Vintage
$5; 9 p.m.
Check out two unique shows Tuesday night. The first, Damn the Witch Siren (as well as She Teen and ATOMO), which comes on at 9, is an electro-pop duo. They are known for their visually-compelling show, and their unique genre of “witch-pop.” The second, Opposite Box, which comes on at 11, has more of an alternative funk style. This is a sweet combo you shouldn’t miss.

Wednesday

Life From the Fingertips: Purion Parker Closing Reception Open Gallery
Free; 7 p.m.
This will be the closing reception of Purion Parker’s solo exhibition. There will be about 20 pieces on display, including celebrity portraits and a Muhammad Ali piece, as well as pieces from his personal life. So if your life is missing a little artistic culture, this is definitely the place for you.

Rock against Racism Louisville Haymarket Whiskey Bar
$7; 4 p.m.
This event will benefit Louisville Urban League. All of the proceeds  go directly to funding West End projects. Grab your ticket ahead of time, or at the event, by donating $7 or more.

Rock your Chakras: Yoga Meets Music Galaxie Bar
Free; 7 p.m
Treat yo’ self to a night of yoga and tunes. There will be complimentary food and drink, as well as flower crowns and bamboo sunglasses. So, come out and celebrate hump day with a yoga dance party. Make sure you register here. 

Royal Wednesday Hip-Hop Kaiju
Free; 9 p.m.
Each month, Kaiju hosts Royal Wednesday Hip Hop, and this July is no different. Join BRXTN, CJ2Much and Kidd Carter for a night of hip hop. All three groups are from Louisville, so give these local artists some love.

Thursday

Forecastle Festival Kick Off Against the Grain
Free; 5 p.m
Can’t wait to get in that Forecastle spirit? Me neither. Let’s head over to Against the Grain for great food, craft beer and Forecastle comradery. This official Forecastle kick-off will also give you a chance to grab your wrist bands before the festival. That’s one more thing to check off your list, and you can have some great beer while doing it. Score.

Ancient Warfare, Seluah and more! The New Vintage
$5; 9 p.m.
Aren’t going to Forecastle this weekend, and want to catch some great tunes? Or maybe you are going, and you just want some more live music. Well, pop into The New Vintage to check out three (Ancient Warfare, Seluah and Ghost Ripper) acts for five bucks. Whatta’ deal!
After the Waterfront: Tomgirl & The Tomgirls Haymarket Whiskey Bar
$5; 9 p.m.
Tomgirl & The Tomgirls is a post-punk, new-wave and hip-hop cover band. They cover all the hits from Talking Heads to Nicki Minaj. So grab some pals to celebrate the upcoming weekend with this unique show.

The Christmas Bride w/ Scuzz Master + Dnk Bdz Fmly Bnd Kaiju
$5; 9 p.m.
This “psychotic pop-punk riffage” band along with a few others will be hanging out and playing some sweet tunes to hype you up for the weekend. Head over there after work and start to ring in the weekend.

Friday

After the Waterfront: White Reaper Has A Ball Haymarket Whiskey Bar
Free; 9 p.m.
This event will take everyone back to their prom night. In a good way. The prom-style party will have a limbo competition, guest DJs all night, middle-school slow dancing and a crowning of king and queen. Also free Capri Suns, so what more could you ask for? Come as you are, or grab that old prom dress that’s collecting dust, and strut your stuff.

Howell’s Hoot & Holler Forecastle Afteroke Zanzabar
Free; 11 p.m.
If you’re still in the partying mood after Forecastle day one, fear not. Grab the gang, and head over to Zanzibar to keep the party going with some karaoke.

Black Oil Brothers The New Vintage
$5; 8 p.m.
These four guys sing the blues. So, let them “turn your heartbreak into ass shake.” Let go of the blues of the past week, and let the Black Oil Brothers help you celebrate the weekend. Doors open at 8, show starts at 9.
Slow Joe Crow’s Final Show with Sump Pumps, Blind Scryer, Kentucky Nightmare Modern Cult Records
$5; 7:30 p.m.
Slow Joe Crow will play with some of Louisville’s heaviest bands. Slow Joe mixes classic blues with “stoner/doom” influences. These two unlikely genres combine to make something unique and compelling. Doors open at 7:30, music starts at 8.
The Harlequins, RON Kaiju
Free; 10 p.m.
Come enjoy live music and drink specials to celebrate the weekend. This group has a pop-meets-rock feel, but they put a psychedelic spin to it. Bring along some friends and listen to some new tunes.
Reflected: Our 15 Year Retrospective Paul Paletti Gallery
Free; 5 p.m.
Help the Paul Paletti Gallery celebrate its 15th anniversary as Kentucky’s only fine-art photography gallery. The show  features pieces from each of its 56 shows. There will also be food and tunes for visitors.
