Black Jeopardy Newburg Library, Louisville Free Public Library Free  |  3-4 p.m. Flex your black history knowledge Jeopardy style. Expect prizes and refreshments. 

TUESDAY, FEB. 12

Free Screening: ‘Veteran’ UofL Strickler Hall, Room 101 Free  |  5-9 p.m. In “Veteran,” South Korea’s fourth-highest grossing film of all time, Sen Do-cheol is a detective pursuing Joe Tae-oh, a young millionaire who comes from a powerful business family. The film brings attention to the issues of corruption and social inequity. Catch the movie and participate in a discussion with Darcy Paquet, a notable film critic of Korean cinema who happens to be an Indiana University alumnus. 

Indigenous Languages of the Americas Fast Class Main Library, Louisville Free Public Library Free  |  6:30-8 p.m. So, you’re not going to emerge from this class fluent in a Native American language, but you’ll probably know more about a little-discussed, but relevant subject. (As the library notes, the words raccoon, pecan, hurricane, hammock and jerky are all related to Native American languages). Karl Swinehart, an assistant professor of linguistics at UofL, will “give an overview of languages of the Americas in terms of their grammatical features, address myths like ‘Eskimo words for snow,’ and look at the example of hip hop among Indigenous youth in Bolivia as an example of contemporary language activism.” Reservations are requested. THURSDAY, FEB. 14

Anti Valentine’s Day Party Monnik Beer Co. No cover  |  7-11 p.m. If you’re going to be dancing on your own anyway this Valentine’s Day, why not fully embrace it? Monnik Beer Co. is hosting a V-Day party for all the single ladies (and gents) — and others not into the holiday of love — with a silent disco. Participants can also spin the “wheel of no love” for prizes and bring their ex’s clothing to have donated. 

Soften / So It Was Kaiju $5  |  9-11 p.m. If you can’t have lovey on Valentine’s Day, what about lovely? Soften (Cincinnati) and So It Was (Louisville) are two regional artists with dreamy sounds, perfect for getting lost in your feels. 

FRIDAY, FEB. 15

Community Book Sale YMCA Safe Place Services Free  |  Noon-6 p.m. Expect thousands of books, movies and games at this book sale — most only for $1 to $2. Proceeds benefit The Book Works, which supports and employs marginalized youth. A second sale takes place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Galentine’s Day 4 Louisville Block Party Handmade Boutique Donations  |  6-10 p.m. What is Galentine’s Day? Oh, it’s only the best day of the year. Technically Feb. 13, Galentine’s Day, a holiday first celebrated on the TV show “Parks and Recreation, is about honoring our female friendships and the badass women they involve. So it makes sense that Block Party’s Galentine’s Day event is all about female empowerment, too. All-female bands, Bungalow Betty and The Delighters will perform between 7 and 9 p.m. and admission (a box of tampons, pads or a menstrual cup), helps benefit women at the Louisville Rescue Mission, Home of the Innocents and The Center for Women and Families. Beverage sales, from West Sixth Brewing, and a raffle, will go toward Girls Rock Louisville, an organization that gives girls and non-gender conforming youth confidence through music.

Mystic Night Naïve No cover  |  7-10 p.m. Indulge your spiritual side with tarot, astrology and crystals at this vendor pop-up. Naïve is a plant-based (with meat options), fast-casual restaurant (that serves cricket flour brownies). 

When Particles Collide / killii killii / Isolation Tank The Care Less Lounge $4-$5  |  8-11:30 p.m. When Particles Collide is coming from Maine to play for Louisville on Friday. The alt-rock duo will be supported by Louisville’s killii killii (a trio that’s going places) and Isolation Tank Ensemble (trash prog).

Be Mine Kinky Valentine Dance Party The Limbo $5 (free for those in kink attire)  |  11:30 p.m.-1:30 a.m. If Valentine’s Day is for the color pink and lace, why can’t the day after be for black leather and metal accents? At The Limbo tiki bar, wear whatever kinky attire you desire and enjoy DJ’d beats and cocktails named after “fun activities.” *wink, wink*
