Flying Out Loud
Sunergos Coffee (2122 S. Preston St.) Free | 6 p.m. For all of you coffee shop writers and poets out there, Sunergos Coffee (the Preston location) is giving you a chance to let it all out this week at its open mic, Flying Out Loud. Be sure to come early if you plan on signing up for the open mic, and for those of you whose work just isnt there yet, this is a chance to watch professionals at work and see how its done.
Yoga + Beer
Goodwood Brewing $5 Donation | 5:30 p.m. Or if youre the type of person who likes to exercise your demons away, then feel free to join yoga instructor Abbey Brooks for an all-levels session at Goodwood Brewing. All you and your yogi friends have to do is bring a mat, a $5 donation for the instructor and a few extra bucks for the post-session brews.
TUESDAY
Down Dog at the Distillery Yoga + Cocktails
Copper & Kings $5 | 7 p.m. One night of yoga and alcohol not enough? Luckily for you, Copper & Kings is hosting a Halloween-inspired Glow Flow this Tuesday. Beginning with a class by Laughter Yoga teacher, Melanie Rudolph, followed by a Halloween-themed yoga class and, finally, a few yogi-inspired cocktails. Participants are asked to bring their own mats and glow sticks.
Comedy Cacophony
Kaiju Free | 9 p.m. In times like these, when a presidential candidate is on tape bragging about sexually assaulting a woman (and everyone doesnt collectively agree that he shouldnt be president), you have to laugh to stay sane. So join Kaiju for a night of Comedy Cacophony with local comedians doing parodies, mashups, stand-up and plenty of other hilarious antics guaranteed to make you forget about the outside world for a blissful while.
WEDNESDAY
Beer with a Scientist
Against the Grain Brewery Free | 8 p.m. To have a good time at a bar, you only need two things: good drinks and good company. Good drinks are a given at Against the Grain Brewery, and this week so is the company since it will host a discussion with Dr. Levi Beverly about “The cutting-edge ways clinicians and researchers are diagnosing and curing cancer right here in Louisville.”
The Wizard of Gore with live music by Montag
Kaiju Free | 8 p.m. Brace yourself, because things are about to get weird. This edition of Night Train Cinema Lounge, a film series that focuses on cult, obscure, old, lost, foreign and other others, includes a screening of The Wizard of Gore, a splatter film about a magician who churns out guts and body parts for the audience’s entertainment. But if you show up early you can see a live music performance by Montag, who sculpts psychic thoughts into wonderful aural creations. Seating is limited with only 30 chairs, and theres also free popcorn!
THURSDAY
ReSurfaced (Oct. 1314)
319 S. Shelby St. Free | 5 p.m. This week at ReSurfaced, its Ladies Night of Thursday which means discounts on the usual drinks and food trucks, and on Friday its Comedy Night with Patrick Taft, Kimberly Vaughn, Justin Tabb and live music by DJ DS.
Retro Video Game Night
Kaiju Free | 8 p.m. Get your old-school gaming fix this week at Kaiju with a night of NES, Sega Genesis, SNES, Nintendo 64 and Gamecube action. Games include Super Smash Bros., Castlevania, Splatterhouse, Ghosts ‘n’ Goblins and a bunch of other Halloween related games. But participants are welcome to bring their own games and systems. And did I mention there will also be free popcorn?
FRIDAY
Future Killer, Garbage Greek, ATOMO
Kaiju $5 | 9 p.m. Looking for a some bizarre tunes to warp your mind this week? Well Kaiju has you covered with a performances by Future Killer who play deconstructed human music, the Voodoo Garage Rock band Garbage Greek and Louisvilles own electronic pop-synth band ATOMO who describe themselves as being in the gray matter business.
Displaced Narratives with New Works by Vian Sora
1619 FLUX: Art + Activism
Free | 6 p.m. 1619 FLUXs fall exhibition is showcasing work by Iraqi-born and self-taught painter Vian Sora (who now lives and works in Louisville). Her new series of artwork illustrates life narratives of those who have suffered during wars, as a result of oppression of race, religious minorities and sexuality. So hold off on the usual Friday boozing and debauchery, and take a second to reflect on this impressive work and important message.
