TUESDAY, May 25

A Shot In The Moonlight Zoom Free  |  6-7 p.m. Learn about the true story of George Dinning, a freed slave and farmer in Simpson County, Kentucky. In 1897, 25 white men shot up Dinning’s home after he was wrongly accused of stealing. Dinning fired back, killing the son of a wealthy family. The legal battle that ensued ended with Dinning becoming the first Black man in America to win damages after a wrongful murder conviction. Author Bert Montgomery tells the tale, based on his book, “A Shot In The Moonlight.”

Witchcraft Study Group Raven’s Roost Boutique Free  |  6-7 p.m. Learn how to cast actual spells and other Wiccan duties with this bi-weekly study group. Participants read through a new chapter of The Real Witches’ Craft and review the Practical Works at the end of each. “Everyone is welcome to join at any time,” write organizers.

Curator and Artist Walkthrough of ‘Reflect, Reframe, Remake, Remodel’ KMAC Museum Free  |  5:30 p.m. Sign up for a special walkthrough of the KMAC Museum’s latest exhibit, which contains work from throughout the museum’s 40 year history of showing how craft-making informs contemporary artistic production. Mag Bar Presents: Booze Your Own Adventure Mag Bar No cover  |  7 p.m., 9 p.m. Sid the Story Master reads from your favorite choose-your-own-adventure novels. American Soul Shawnee Park Free  |  8 p.m. The Louisville Orchestra is taking its American Soul show to Shawnee Park this week. This free outdoor concert features conductor Teddy Abrams, vocalists Jason Clayborn and Daria Raymore and violinist Gabriel Lefkowitz. Together, they have prepared a set of American soul music, featuring songs from Aretha Franklin, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder and more.

THURSDAY, May 27

Festival of Contemporary Writing Online Times vary  |  Free Spalding University’s Festival of Contemporary Writing is a must-see for voracious Louisville readers. From 1:30 to 2 p.m., Spalding faculty will be reading from their works. And, from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m., the Festival’s headliner, author Sena Jeter Naslund, will read from “Ahab’s Wife,” “the novel that launched her to international prominence.” There are two sessions on Friday, both featuring Spalding alumni reading from their recently published books. One takes place at 10 a.m. and the other at 5:15 p.m.. 

FRIDAY, May 28

Social Justice Fair Jefferson Square Park Free  |  11 a.m.-7 p.m. On May 28, it will have been one year since thousands of protesters took to Louisville’s streets demanding justice for Breonna Taylor. To commemorate the anniversary, the community is taking over Jefferson Square Park, or Injustice Square, again for two days of speakers, story-sharing, entertainment, presentations, food, yoga and prayer. “As we move forward, it is important that we stay vigilant, connected, and focused on a path forward that is intersectional, inclusive, and uniting,” write organizers of the event, which is being sponsored by the Kentucky Alliance Against Racist & Political Repression. The event continues into Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m..

Memorial Day Weekend Bash Four Pegs Free  |  11 a.m.-2 a.m. The sun is shining and people are vaccinated so Four Pegs is throwing a party with drink specials, giveaways, a new menu rollout and games. But, the good times continue all weekend. On Saturday, starting at noon, there will be an outdoor market and live music. And, on Sunday: a Grow Wilder Nursery pop-up, plant-themed cocktails and trivia. 

‘Romeo & Juliet’ Emerson Park Free  |  6:30-8:30 p.m. It’s your last opportunity to see Kentucky Shakespeare’s park tour of “Romeo & Juliet.” This performance takes place in Emerson Park in the Schnitzelburg neighborhood.
