Parent firm Yum! Brands said on February 18, 2025 Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is moving its U.S. corporate headquarters from Louisville to Plano, Texas. About 100 Louisville corporate workers, who are slated to relocate to the new site within the next six months, will be impacted by the transfer.
“I am disappointed by this decision and believe the company’s founder would be, too,” Gov. Andy Beshear said in a statement. “This company’s name starts with Kentucky, and it has marketed our state’s heritage and culture in the sale of its product.”
The choice fits Yum! Brands’ larger reorganization, meant to simplify processes and boost cooperation among its affiliates. Under the new arrangement, Taco Bell and Habit Burger & Grill will be headquartered in Irvine, CA, while KFC and Pizza Hut will be based in Plano, TX.
Yum! Brands will keep a presence in Louisville, keeping 560 staff members and running the KFC Foundation from the city notwithstanding the relocation. Since 1955, KFC has been headquartered in Louisville.
The corporation has said that the change is meant to promote efficiency and creativity; it has not said whether more job losses will follow.
