For anyone looking to tap into that late-‘90s/early-aughts indie pop, Comforter has you covered with that angst-ridden earnestness that seems tied to a specific time and place. The compositional work is competent and well put together, with a nuance to the music through an attention to dynamic shifts that allows for some rather tender moments in between the stormier bits — the shadow to the light. This is cleverly compiled and has a flow that recalls such bands as Slint and Mogwai, although filtered through the Archers of Loaf or Cap’n Jazz. Comforter is comforting and comfortable, an easy listen that blends a pop sensibility with fuzzed-out guitars and contemplative lyrics.
