Louisville bands on the rise
In a poll conducted informally through LEO’s Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Eggfly, and Louisville Mojo pages, we have identified the 10 most promising up-and-coming local bands, based on your suggestions and comments.
1) Cat Scratch Beaver — These Fourth Street Live favorites have never read a book all the way through, and you can sense that as they’re playing. Fun!
2) Rand Dumb Paul — This political rapper could take Kentucky by storm, if people ever want to hear an angry guy discuss oppression.
3) The Cabbage Patch SIDS — These avante-garde noisemakers never practice and love playing in the woods.
4) Obese Police — Punk’s not dead, it’s … No, actually, it is. But these guys keep reviving it.
5) Cameltoe Jam — Southern rockers from Leitchfield. Their hair is almost as long as their bass solos.
6) Do Not Question the Robots — Jarring, twitchy electronica.
7) Father Finger — Quiet, intense electronica.
8) Guard Your Taco — Sensitive, female singer-songwriters … with a message.
9) Puppet Heap — Hardcore’s not dead, it’s … No, actually, it is. But these guys keep reviving it.
10) Jazz Dump — Poopin’ out the jazz since 1971.
‘3/4 to Forecastle’ announced
With less than a month before the 10th annual Forecastle Festival is set to “launch” on the “seas” of Louisville, founder J.K. McKnight has announced yet another pre-pre-fest event, “3/4 to Forecastle.” The festivities will include 150 of the city’s best DJs, on a yacht in the middle of the Ohio River, on July 4 between 4 p.m. and 4 a.m. While scheduling details have not been finalized, Grey Goose will sponsor the charity-based party, which is intended to benefit “the kids, or the homeless, or something,” said a spokesperson. Carson Daly and WFPK’s Kyle Meredith will share hosting duties.
