Carbonatix Pre-Player Loader

An interminable four years after her debut, Santi White returns with her sophomore record. Fear not any jinx, this record is every bit as good as her first and has just enough evolution as to not be guilty of retreading old ground. Make-Believe does shift a couple points away from her bass-driven introduction to be a more percussive experience, save for the dancehall riddim of highlight “Disparate Youth” and the rolling march of “God from the Machine.” “Freak Like Me” and “Look at These Hoes” are lyrical throwaways that still knock, even if you roll your eyes at the words. With repeated listens, it’s great that I currently have no neighbors, because I have been shaking the walls with this album, and have yet to find a volume loud enough to do it justice. This is summer’s soundtrack.
