FRIDAY

Toruk – The First Flight by Cirque Du Soleil
KFC Yum! Center $38-$135; Times vary Since Avatar 2 is still two years away from release (seriously what is taking so long?), you can satiate your lust for blue cat people riding dinosaurs with “Toruk – The First Flight.” This Cirque Du Soleil performance is set thousands of years before the events of “Avatar” and centers around the taming of Toruk, the mighty red and orange predator that rules Pandoran sky (not Turok, the dinosaur hunter as I had hoped).
Kentucky Derby Festival All over town Free with Pegasus Pin; Times vary The Derby is upon us, which means the Derby Festival is in full effect. On Friday, you can check out Ohio Valley Wrestling (6 p.m.) and the Easton Corbin concert (8 p.m.) on the Great Lawn, or head to the Kentucky Exposition Center for the Balloon Glow (6 p.m.). And on Saturday there is the Balloon Race at Bowman Field (7 a.m.) and the Ken-Ducky Derby at the Great Lawn (4 p.m.). And on Sunday be sure to cheer on the cyclists at the Tour De Lou, which starts at Waterfront Park (8:30 a.m.).

SATURDAY

Opening Night
Churchill Downs $10; 5 p.m. The Kentucky Derby may still be decadent and depraved, but at least opening night at Churchill Downs is cultured and couture. In addition to the night races, Fund for the Arts will be around with a number of actors, dancers, musicians and visual artists performing throughout the track, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Fund for the Arts. There’s no dress code, but everyone is encouraged to “Dress to Impress.”

6th Annual Donut Challenge and Walk MS Kick-Off
Goodwood Brewing Taproom
Free; 9 a.m. Embrace your inner child and come play with your food for a good cause. This donut-themed building competition invites everyone to come build a monument using Krispy Kreme donuts and have it judged by local TV personalities and members of the media. There will also be free pancakes, and for every beer bought from Goodwood Brewing, they will donate a $1 to The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Kentucky-Southeast Indiana Chapter.

Cherokee Triangle Art Fair
Cherokee Triangle Free; 10 a.m. Spend your hungover Sunday in Cherokee this weekend perusing the art of over 200 artists’ booths at the 45th-annual Cherokee Triangle Art Fair. In addition to the amazing art, there will be plenty of food, drink and live music. This art fair (which is sadly a pet-free zone) is a major fundraiser for the Cherokee Triangle Association and will help fund summer concerts in Willow Park, the Highlands/Shelby Park branch of Louisville Free Public Library and the Olmsted Parks Conservancy. Continues Sunday.
