Morrissey / The Smith Night
Zanzabar $3 | 8 p.m. Singer/songwriter and celebrated anti-star, Morrissey, is coming to Louisville. But before he does, Zanzabar decided to throw a tribute night to both Morrissey and his former band, The Smiths. And you can feel good about departing with that $3 for the cover, because all proceeds go to Tysons Chance.
TUESDAY
Roy Blount Jr.
The Temple Free | 7 p.m. The Contemporary Thought Forum Series celebrates the love of learning with thought-provoking, entertaining programming. And this week they are hosting a lecture/Q&A with Roy Blount Jr. Blount is the author of 23 books, a panelist on NPRs Wait Wait… Dont Tell Me! and an all around entertaining guy. There will also be a book signing and opportunity for photographs after the presentation. Just be sure to RSVP for the event ahead of time at the link above.
WEDNESDAY
Anime Movie Night
Kaiju Free | 8 p.m. What better way to watch anime than at a giant monster-themed bar? There isnt, so head over to Kaiju where for free popcorn (as long as supplies last) and screenings of Howls Moving Castle at 8 p.m. and Evangelion: 1.11 You Are {Not} Alone at 10 p.m. And, for the diehard anime fans, there will be a anime discussion group at 7 p.m.
THURSDAY
Discount Guns, Good People
Haymarket Whiskey Bar $5 | 6 p.m. The weekend isnt here yet, but that doesnt mean you cant go enjoy some live music. This Thursday at Haymarket Whiskey Bar you can see garage rock/fuzz blues band Discount Guns, and hard rock/blues band Good People.
Dream Eye Color Wheel, Animal City, JILL
Cure Lounge $5 | 8 p.m. Continuing the trend of live music on Thursdays is the almighty Cure Lounge, who will be hosting acts by Louisville experimental, electronic band Dream Eye Color Wheel, party art-rock band Animal City, and garage rock duo JILL.
Brenda & Twenty First Century Fox
Decca Free | 7:30 p.m. And rounding out the live music listings on Thursday is shotgun-house rock band Brenda, and contemporary rock n roll ensemble Twenty First Century Fox who will be playing at the Autumn Mixer at Decca. So as the Facebook event page says, bust out your fashion scarfs, sip your pumpkin latte, and shotgun an Oktoberfest, we’ll see y’all there!
Twilight Thursday
Churchill Downs $3 | 5 p.m. Twilight Thursday is perfect for everyone who loves watching live thoroughbred racing at Churchill Downs, but hates the madness of Derby. Its a chill night for locals, with $1 beer at the Paddock Plaza, live music by Josh Kauffman and food by local food trucks.
FRIDAY
Black Lives Matter Movement Tribute
Haymarket Whiskey Bar $5 | 10 p.m. Urban Social is hosting a Black Lives Matter Movement Tribute, which aims to redefine the urban experience through music. Live music will be provided by local drummer Aaron Jordon, as well as DJs Bombshell and Stiletto. There will also be a few local food businesses and artists around too.
8th Annual Louisville Brewfest
Louisville Slugger Field $5 | 4 p.m. There are so many things to tell you about BrewFest all of the local breweries, wineries and restaurants, the speciality beers made just for this special occasion, the after party at Haymarket Whiskey Bar, and with drink/food tickets only $1 each (samples 1 ticket each, full pours 4 tickets) this event won’t break the bank. But sadly, neither of us have all day to talk about BrewFest, so lets just pick this back up when I see you there.
Against The Grains 5 Year Anniversary Party
Against The Grain Brewery Free | 6 p.m. Hard to believe, but Against The Grain has been around for five years, now! And theyre not taking this quinquennial event lightly. To celebrate, they will be throwing a party with live music by Tony and the Tan Lines, a giant chiquen piñata and the opening of a time capsule filled with treasure from [Against the Grains] first year.”
