It’s ironic that Queens of the Stone Age opted to name their newest …Like Clockwork, given the six years between albums and the comparatively prog-y leanings found herein. QOTSA have eschewed the bottled heat of tracks like “No One Knows” for a more composed release that relies more on the strength of its constituent guest stars, including Dave Grohl, Trent Reznor and Sir Elton John, than on any one particular theme. That said, there is a lot to work with here, be it the sludgy opening stomp of “Keep Your Eyes Peeled” or the symphonic Pink Floyd prog-rock of the titular “…Like Clockwork,” QOTSA are apt to keep you guessing as to what comes next. An airy Zeppelin vibe permeates an otherwise distinctly stoner-pop affair, creating another in a long line of memorable albums.
