Louisville’s first FREE WEEK will feature more than 15 local bands at four different venues over four days. Organized by Do502, with LEO Weekly signed on as a media partner, the event will take place Jan. 28-31, with the New Vintage hosting free music on Wednesday, Zanzabar on Thursday, Headliners on Friday and the Mercury Ballroom on Saturday. LEO Weekly will also present a kick off party on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at Haymarket Whiskey Bar, which you can RSVP for through Do502’s website. It’s an incredible lineup and here’s how it breaks down:

Tuesday, Jan. 27 (Kick Off Event)

RSVP through Do502’s website to get access to the Kick Off Party, which will feature two of the area’s most intriguing, boundary-pushing musicians in Cher Von and Shedding.

Wednesday, Jan. 28
The New Vintage 2126 S. Preston St.
8 p.m.
The first official night of FREE WEEK brings an energetic night of bands that fall all over the tree of rock ’n’ roll. From the blistering hardcore of Coliseum to the punk-influenced indie from The Foxery, the trippy synth-rock from Parlour and the straight-forward punk of Black God.

Thursday, Jan. 29
Zanzabar 2100 S. Preston St.
8 p.m.
The rising indie-pop band A Lion Named Roar — recent winners of a nation-wide contest from the magazine American Songwriter and Martin Guitars that landed them a one-year publishing contract — will play on night two, as well as the gritty blues rockers Discount Guns, the experimental power-trio Satellite Twin, the dreamy indie band Lydia Burrell and Six Bells, who are interviewed in this issue.

If you want to see smart and scrappy garage rock, pushed in all different directions, make sure you don’t miss this. The Hot Wires — a throwback that brings to mind the heavy side of the late 60s — Graffiti — who always seem to be tweaking their psychedelic, yet direct sound — Black Birds of Paradise — who masterfully balance dark and ambient with catchy and melodic — and New Bravado — a fuzzy, whirlwind of hybrid-rock — all provide fresh spins on classic sounds.

Saturday, Jan. 31
Mercury Ballroom 611 S. 4th St.
8 p.m.
A local hip-hop showcase doesn’t really get much better than bringing together the versatile and electric group 1200, the slick and endlessly sharp flow of Jalin Roze, the dark, unique production and steady, powerful delivery of Touch AC & The Smoke Shop Kids and the reference-heavy Shadowpact, who always manages to keep you on your toes.
