We’re not always haters here at LEO. To prove it, check this out: Gannett TV stations won 34 regional Edward R. Murrow journalism awards at the end of last month, four of which were for “overall excellence.” The other awards ran the gamut: sports, features, hard news, spot news coverage, and so forth. That’s got to tell you something.
Unfortunately for us — well, maybe — none of those are in Louisville, or even in Kentucky. Gannett operates 23 news stations in the United States, none of which are really even close to here. The company owns The Courier-Journal, of course, and four newspapers in Indiana, including the Indianapolis Star.
WLKY-TV, owned by Hearst-Argyle, captured one Murrow award for writing. Otherwise, the market was shut out.
