Thanks to a loyal reader for this tip: The Courier-Journal, Louisvilles Gannett-owned daily newspaper, is initiating a new ad delivery system by which advertisers can upload their own art, via an FTP site, straight to C-J designers, using nothing more than a web browser, according to an e-mail from the C-Js tech department that was provided to LEO.
Whats wrong with that?
Its basically the same as the self-checkout system at big-box stores: According to some in the field, it takes the onus off the C-J and places it on the customers, so that if you screwed up your upload, youre to blame, not them, for a botched ad. And, as weve seen happen in grocery stores nationwide, it potentially reduces the need for certain employees. While LEO has no credible information about potential ad-rep layoffs, nervous chatter abounds.
