While for some, summer in Louisville means endless trips to the Zoo, Kentucky Kingdom, the pool, or neighborhood parks, others look forward to summer because it’s the return of picnic season for the Catholic churches in the Louisville area. With so many churches around, there’s multiple picnics for you to attend just about every weekend.

You’re missing out if you’ve never attended a picnic at one of the churches listed below as they’re run by excited volunteers who cook delicious meals, give live performances, and conduct carnival-like activities for both children and adults, to ensure you have a night of fun. You can’t help but feel a sense of joy as you wander the picnics bonding with others in the Louisville community. Attending a picnic, or two, is something you should add to your summer to-do list.

While some picnics have already kicked off in May, here’s a list of picnics happening from June-August in the Louisville area:


Toasty’s This is a drink that is best enjoyed on the fringes of cold seasons as the weather is warming up or cooling off. Definitely perfect for spring to encourage the warmth! There’s been some rock solid rum drinks made around Germantown for a few years now but this one in particular is best enjoyed on a sunny patio with a burger or a hot dog, if you catch my drift.Ingredients: White rum, Campari, strawberry allspice syrup, lime juice
SATURDAY, MARCH 30 Baby Goat Day! Legend At Pope Lick | 4002 S Pope Lick Rd. | Search Facebook | Free | 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.Meet baby goats and get a free photo with donation. There will be coffee and warm donuts, other snacks and souvenirs along with fresh farm items with Sunny Acres Farm bringing eggs, baked goods, goat milk soap, and local honey.
Check Out PuttshackPuttshack, the world’s first and only upscale tech-infused mini golf experience is now open at the Oxmoor Center.The new space is equipped with four 9-hole courses, a dedicated DJ booth, extensive shareable menu, hand-crafted cocktails, and both private and semi-private event spaces. St. Francis Xavier Church SATURDAY, JUNE 8 155 Stringer Ln St. Francis Xavier kicks off their picnic with Summerfest and a Super Raffle Drawing.
St. Paul Catholic Church THURSDAY-SATURDAY, JUNE 13-15 6901 Dixie Hwy Over the course of three nights, St. Paul’s picnic includes Ride Night and their Chicken Dinner.
MerryWeather’s AKA the Schnitzel-Bürd This drink needed to skew German, or what the hell was the point!? Jagermeister was the first step, then. It had to be Kentucky, so bourbon was the next. To keep it tropical, as our house style suggests, pineapple followed. We then sought to craft a shaken Jagermeister sour that mimicked a Jungle Bird, but where rich honey stepped in for the sweet, and lemon stole the sour spotlight. Angostura bitters then added the spice, and so we could officially call it, dare we say, tiki. A spritz of Campari begins the glass.Ingredients: Jagermeister, Bourbon, Pineapple, Honey, Lemon, Angostura, Spritz of Campari

Wild LightsLouisville’s premier springtime lights attraction, Wild Lights, returns to the Louisville Zoo for its fifth year. Bringing a new lineup of lanterns, Wild Lights will run Thursday through Sunday nights from Mar. 23 – May 19. Tickets start at $23 with special deals for families.
