The West End Farmers Market will close out Pride Month with a Pride-themed market event on Sunday, June 29, from 3 to 7 PM at California Park (16th and Prentice). The event will focus on wellness, belonging, and Black LGBTQIA+ creativity.
The market will be hosted by Fairen Kia of Love Thy Belly, with music provided by DJ IBJamn. Play Cousins Collective will offer family-friendly Scrumptious Sunday activities, while UofL Health will lead Stop the Bleed demonstrations to teach life-saving techniques.
Organizers are currently seeking LGBTQIA+ performers, who will be paid $50 per performance, as well as LGBTQIA+ vendors and volunteers to assist with setup, community partner support, and cleanup between 1 PM and 8 PM. Vendors can apply at https://forms.gle/jaixu3pwWQj62ekG6.
One featured vendor is Vice Versa Barber Braid Beauty, founded by Chance Thee Barber. The salon is a safe, affirming space for gender-fluid, Black, and LGBTQIA+ individuals. Owner Victoria Coakley describes Vice Versa as a place where beauty is radical, expansive, and personal.
“Vice Versa was born out of necessity,” Coakley said. “We don’t gatekeep beauty—we flip the script. This market helps us connect with the community and showcase how beauty is radical, expansive, and deeply personal.”
The market encourages the community to come for the fresh produce and stay for the people, pride, and power.
