Change Today, Change Tomorrow (CTCT), a Black women-led nonprofit based in Louisville’s West End, is teaming up with Life4YOUth’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC) to host Survive the Summer, a high-energy, youth-organized community event happening today, June 2, from 3–7 PM at California Park.
This free, family-friendly celebration aims to beat the heat with a mix of music, movement, mutual aid, and community connection. The afternoon features live performances from local artists NISE The NYMPH, ISIS, and CNEL, with DJ MINI spinning throughout the day, along with youth performances, art stations, kickball, water balloons, and relay races to round out the fun.
More than 30 local vendors and community organizations will be on-site, offering resources, food, and handmade goods, with many vendors accepting SNAP. Hot meals purchased with SNAP are covered through June 30, 2025. Expect to see favorites like Rae’s Roots Mobile Market, Changó Gardens, Fruitease, and MaMa Dee’s Delights.
The event also marks the launch of CTCT’s FreshRX program, which offers $260 in free produce to pregnant Medicaid recipients who attend 10 farmers markets. It’s a health and food access initiative rooted in reproductive justice, backed by event sponsor SisterSong.
The Youth Advisory Council (ages 16–24) is at the heart of the event. They’ll also host their first general meeting on Tuesday, June 10, at 6 PM at The Bakery (901 S. 15th St.), with dinner provided by KFC.
Volunteers are still welcome today. Come through, lend a hand and see what youth-powered change looks like in real time.
