Anyone with an appreciation for old-school, hardcore punk is going to have a hard time disliking XO from LeATHERMOUTH. The band is a side project for Frank Lero, of My Chemical Romance (which stands for everything punk rock isn’t), who steps up as lead vocalist here. XO bites with the aggression of a rabid dog while recalling the politically charged lyrics of bands like Dead Kennedys and Black Flag. Without a single song reaching three minutes in length, the album is short … punk-rock short … 22 minutes short. The songs are tight with slicing titles like, “5th Period Massacre” and “Your Friends Are Full of Shit.” The length is perfect for this brand of punk, because it can wear thin quickly. Thankfully, by the time you get fed up with LeATHERMOUTH, XO is already over.
