Heroin  |  Thorn Overdose. Overdose. Overdose. Overdose. Overdose. Overdose. Overdose. Overdose. Overdose. Overdose. Overdose. Overdose. Overdose. Overdose. Overdose. Overdose. Overdose. Overdose. Overdose. Overdose. Overdose. Overdose. Overdose. Overdose. Overdose. That is about how many overdosing heroin addicts landed in area hospital emergency rooms in a single night last week. It is going to take a lot more than handwringing to rid this city of heroin. Because, as Lou Reed said, “You can’t help me now, you guys And all you sweet girls with all your sweet talk. You can all go take a walk. And I guess I just don’t know. And I guess that I just don’t know.”

arrogant, incompetent ?or both  |  Thorn What do the Nazis, President Nixon, former Kentucky Gov. Ernie Fletcher’s administration, former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner and Gov. Matt “Oblivous” Bevin have in common? They self-documented what got them into trouble. The House speaker wants Bevin investigated on allegations that he threatened a state lawmaker — over the phone — for having refused to switch his party to Republican. The lawmaker recorded Bevin’s phone call. Doh!

Open-ish records law  |  Thorn Assistant Attorney General Amye Bensenhaver, one of the state’s authorities on open records and open meetings laws, retired after being reprimanded because she talked with a reporter without permission. Richard Beliles, chairman of Common Cause Kentucky, perhaps put it best when he told Kentucky Today: “I think that it is ironic that this woman is being reprimanded for speaking to a journalist when she is so closely associated with the principle of government transparency.”

Finally, a use for Faceplant  |  Rose Dennie Humphrey, owner of the Monkey Wrench bar-restaurant on Barret Avenue, posted on his Faceplant page the surveillance photos of two burglars who stole $1,500 in cash and a banjo. The post was shared almost 2,500 times, and the media also reported it. Now, two men are under arrest, about which Humphrey said: “The city of Louisville prevails ... Thank you [for] all for the likes and shares and thanks to the media for all of your interests.”
