I have MS and really wish we could get medical marijuana in Kentucky! I had problems with painkillers in the past. I’ve been clean for five years. Now my MS is starting to cause me a lot of pain and I refuse to take pills. I smoke marijuana and really wish they would make it so that I’m not committing a crime!

I am 53 and in 1999 New Year’s Eve broke my neck, nose and vertebrae in my back. I was on so many meds I couldn’t function, I was dying from meds. I was introduced to marijuana and in no time I was able to stop taking all the meds I was put on and able to function. I truly believe I would be dead now if not for marijuana. I still hurt some, but its tolerable. Best of all I don’t get sick if I don’t have it. Thank you God for making this stuff.

I spoke in the annex yesterday about legalization. Senator Clark I commend you for the lives you are trying to save. I have had 35 surgeries, I have been on opioids over 40 years and can tell how hard it is on your organs. [...] Got a lot of hugs from old and young people for speaking about it, the Carpenters, Chuck and Gina, helped with this and was a great discussion. They mentioned teachers’ pensions, taxes, wages, needing money for education et cetera. I told them if this passes it will make Kentucky money for all these things and also will help the people that are suffering with MS, cancer, glacoma, spinal injuries, tumors, seziures and so much more, and it will help me tremendesly.

Something that this article did not touch upon but should have is industrial hemp. Kentucky is well suited for that crop and its potential is huge; my view is that the recreational and medical cannabis industries combined will be dwarfed by industrial cannabis, simply due to the vast number of applications for this product if for no other reason. And this crop has historically been a Kentucky cash crop.

John Erlichman, Nixon’s right hand man in an interview with Dan Baum, author of the book “Smoke and Mirrors,” said:
“The Nixon campaign in 1968 and the Nixon White House after that had two enemies, the anti-war left and black people. Do you understand what I’m saying? We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or to be black. But by getting the public to associate hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin and then criminalizing both heavily we could disrupt those communities. We could raid their homes, break up their meetings, vilify them every night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.”
