Darryl “The Hammer” Isaacs, a lawyer in Louisville, is once again paying for safe rides this Labor Day weekend. Isaacs is giving away free $20 Uber vouchers through his Hammer Hub app to help people travel home safely and keep Christmas celebrations from ending in tragedy.
“I love holidays and celebrating, so I don’t want to take that fun away from anyone,” Isaacs said in a news release Monday. “But in my business, you see so many people hurt by preventable accidents, and especially during summer holidays. I wanted to do something about it.”
The vouchers will be available on a first-come, first-served basis from Saturday, Aug. 30 through Monday, Sept. 1. To claim one, download the Hammer Hub app on Apple or Android, then use the voucher inside Uber’s “wallet” section. Each code is worth $20, and if the ride costs more, the user pays the difference with their saved payment method.
Isaacs launched the Hammer Hub app to give out rideshare credits during high-risk holidays. He has also announced the free ride program will return for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve.
The project is personal for Isaacs, who survived a serious 2015 bike accident and says his goal is to prevent others from experiencing the same kind of trauma.
