Bedlam ensues
Two years in the making, Better Than Bedlams debut album finally sees cellophane Saturday. Singer-guitarists Tyler Stiller and Laren Rapp, drummer Justin Lee and bassist Adam Hamilton have been doing what most local musicians do: juggling recording, attending college and working part-time.
Stiller and Rapp started playing together in 2005 in a project they now admit was, um, a bomb. We were terrible, Stiller says. When we told our fans that we were gonna start a new band, they were like, Hope its better than your old stuff.
Rapp describes the band thusly: If Incubus and the Goo Goo Dolls had a baby, we would pop out.
The four used money from their day jobs to buy recording time at Liquid Sound Studios. Its hard, says Rapp. You have enough material for four to five hours, but you can only be in there for two.
Their CD release party is Saturday at Headliners (1386 Lexington Road, 584-8088, www.headlinerslouisville.com). Hear tracks at www.myspace.com/betterthanbedlam. Brittany Tracy/photo by Kacy Machir
Guilt ridden
According to a post on its MySpace page, Guilt is probably going to play a reunion show sometime in 2009.
Fronted by Duncan Barlow (now known as d. biddle), Guilts Victory Records albums Bardstown Ugly Box and Further are easily the best records that label has released in over a decade. No exact venue or date has been booked, but, as the post says, Well tell you more as we know more. Hear some: myspace.com/bardstownuglybox.
Music Editor Mat Herron and fall intern Brittany Tracy contributed to this brief report, which is still newsier than, say, Hannity & Colmes.
