Tiny Elephant: Tiny Elephant
(self-released) The musicianship presented by Tiny Elephant is remarkable, but it’s a bit more difficult to identify specifically what it is that they do. Is this jazz, funk or a bit of a fusion? Safe money leans towards the later, as the trio mix things up from track to track by never really focusing on one trope over any others. There is a lot of nice groove and textural work here. And this is incredibly smooth music, first and foremost, and, as such, Tiny Elephant create the kind of music that fits Brian Eno’s treatise to be as ignorable as it is interesting, satisfying equally as background decoration perfect for coloring a conversation, or as ear candy for an intent listener.
