Dasha Barbours Southern Bistro, a Black-owned restaurant that serves freshly-made Southern and soul food dishes, opened its new downtown location on April 28 after a five-day soft opening at 217 E. Main St. downtown. The location replaces what used to be The Celtic Pig.
Co-owners Aaron and Tumeka Dasha Barbour moved out of their former Buechel location in August, citing space issues; the restaurant was too small for their growing customer base and lacked certain amenities, like a walk-in cooler.
Now, though, the owners are happy to have a larger, two-floor space in a more high-traffic location. Aaron Barbour told LEO that theyve almost finished hiring 30 new staff members.
They held a ribbon cutting on their opening day, alongside representatives from AMPED, ??Greater Louisville Inc., and Mayor Greg Fischers office, the latter of whom read a proclamation from the mayor in honor of the opening.
The Barbours were part of the inaugural AMPED Russell Technology Business Incubator cohort, a yearlong program that develops Black- and Latinx-owned businesses in Louisville.
Their new location also serves a more expanded range of dishes than the original; the menu at the downtown location includes shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, Cajun salmon with rasta pasta, deep fried catfish and salmon croquettes.
The downtown location also has live entertainment.

Dasha Barbours is open Monday through Saturday from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
