Record Review: Droneroom — 'I’ll Make It Up To You, I Swear'

Droneroom

Predicated on stacked riffs, the music of Droneroom is dominated by the ability to create a mood. I’ll Make It Up To You, I Swear is an instrumental album, primarily featuring guitar. Despite the use of looping and some cursory effects, the majority of the compositions are bare and Ennio Morricone-esque works that privilege a relatively clean path between guitar and listener. The use of effects is rarely from a shoegaze perspective, but something more in line with post-rock. As such, you can hear elements of Mogwai, Earth and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. This is an atmospheric record ideally suited for dark days. —Syd Bishop
