Art news Local artist Chris Chappel has painted a waterfall on the Whole Alternatives building at 1531 W. Main St. in Portland. Its part of a partnership with Portland Investment Initiative, Beautify Earth and the band My Morning Jackets The Waterfall Project.

Call for art: The Arts Council of Southern Indiana is holding its annual "Beyond Borders" exhibit July 11-Sept. 5. The exhibit's theme refers to the Monarch butterfly, its migration and its life cycle.
