Kacey Musgraves’ major-label debut is an oasis of all I’ve needed from a songwriter; this album is immediately in the conversation of greats. The biting, smart-ass and maybe a little more-grown-than-her-years lyrics are a font of wit and depth. Each song is its own snapshot of middle — and Southern America, a glimpse into flyover territory that still feels like home to even the upward and urban among us. That Same Trailer Different Park has at least six songs of equal quality to the massive “Merry Go ’Round,” from the fun boomerang lyrics of “Follow Your Arrow” to the bare production and soul of “It is What It Is,” these are far from overshadowed by the hit and propels Musgraves to songwriting’s bold-faced names with a single album.
