In Other Words: A Free Poetry Workshop, Exhibit & Reading

Have a poem yearning to be set free but not sure how to do it? Louisville Literary Arts is offering a free, three-session poetry writing workshop as part of the year-long community celebration of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, 55th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act and The Frazier History Museum’s Kentucky Suffrage Exhibition (opening 2020). Instruction will be by River City Revue’s Ashley Taylor, facilitator of UofL’s LGBTQ Creative Writing Group. “Workshop participants will work closely with historical materials from the suffragist era and explore the radical and collaborative language of identity and embodied experience inherent in those artifacts,” organizers said. The workshop continues Oct. 5 and Oct. 12. “Polished, original poems,” organizers said, will be featured during a public reading Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. —LEO
