‘Sweet Evening Breeze’

Meet the drag queen behind the name of Louisville’s homeless shelter for LGBTQ youth, Sweet Evening Breeze. In this staged reading of a based-on-true musical of the same name, James Herndon, or “Sweets,” is a hospital orderly and performer in Lexington, Kentucky, who exposes the sports betting scam of a wealthy, local predator. Besides being a comedy, this musical, by Larry Muhammad also “educates audiences about the struggle for gay rights in the 1960s.” Muhammad will be at each performance, participating in talkbacks afterward. Proceeds benefit the Sweet Evening Breeze shelter.
