‘South Arts’ By Joyce Garner

What did you do during the pandemic? Sheltering-in-place had most of us avoiding fellow humans by baking bread and binge-watching Netflix. Not painter Joyce Garner; she was selected the 2021 South Arts State Fellow for Kentucky. The program recognizes artists in the South (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee). More than 850 people applied, with the jurors eventually narrowing it down to eight individual artists and one team. Garner will be included with the other winners in South Arts exhibitions in 2022. Meanwhile, visitors can view her award-winning work at her family’s gallery through July.
