The new works by Anessa Arehart are a bit of a deviation from her well-known “Nature Goddess” paintings. The aesthetics are similar, but the subject matter comes from a different source of inspiration for Arehart. She is inspired by the belief that everyone has an “etheric” or astral body, a silver cord of life, that is tied to their physical body. This belief exists across many cultures and throughout the ages. Arehart suspects that she was briefly knocked into this astral plane when she was injured in a car accident. “Did my glimpse into this other world jog my celestial memory? Are the two related at all? Honestly, I haven’t a clue but I’ve been giving it lots of thought and greatly entertaining myself as I painted this new series,” said Arehart of her artistic journey. An opening reception will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7.
